Ahh, what was my favorite toy as a child? I remember having an abundance of toys as a child ranging from stuffed animals to Disney character bags and dolls, dolls, and more dolls.

My favorite would have to be my Bratz dolls, my sister and I were obsessed with them. They were the girls with the passion for fashion! They were so funky and had such a different vibe than any other doll. Bratz brought the vibes. To me, Bratz were for the real girls, the girls who were off the beaten path, the girls who were different. They had big lips (a HUGE deal for me who was always made fun of for my big lips), big eyes, big fashion, and bigger personalities.

The Bratz have four main girls: Jade, Sasha, Yasmin, and Chloe who varied in ethnicities which was a plus for us. So my sister and I took to adopting two apiece and of course we chose the ones that were most like us.

Me, being Jasmine, of course adopted Yasmin because of our obvious name similarity and then Jade. Jade was so much like me because she was the eccentric one, and she was a bit of a tomboy. Her clothes were always the funkiest and her hobbies were too. She was different and she was everything I felt I embodied and everything I wanted to be.

To this day, my sister and I still gush about the Bratz. We still know and occasionally sing out loud all the songs to their Starrin’ and Stylin’ animated film, we still watch their live action film, and you may even catch the Bratz animated TV show playing on the TV at our house.
