My favorite quote would have to be Maya Angelou’s quote about how you make people feel.
The quote reads: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” It’s a good quote, and it’s a lot of truth to it. I think we all can recall a time when someone treated us a certain way, and while the details of what happened are fuzzy or forgotten, we remember our feelings at that moment.

A few years ago, I worked at a hospital and it was one of the many quotes plastered in the stairwell. Every time I walked past it, I remember thinking how much this idea applied to my job as a nursing assistant. People coming in and out of the hospital needed to feel support and warmth more than anything else.
I love this quote for two reasons. The first is that it’s true, and it emphasizes the importance of being a decent person. People can place value in what the first half of the quote mentions, words and actions. The effects of those can fade, and all that is left is what you remember about how someone made you feel.
The second reason I love this quote is that it’s a compass to how I live my life. As a teacher, I know I’m not the best, but I care for my students and my goal is always to make sure they know that in my classroom, they were supported and loved. In my personal life, I try to be a positive and neutral person so that I am not a reason for someone to feel bad about their day or themselves.
