This is my favorite photo that I’ve taken. It’s a selfie of my daughter and me. I have it in color too, but it’s something about black and white that shifts the focus to what matters. The expression person our faces, the contentment in mine, and the bliss in hers.

This photo was taken sometime last spring, during what I believe was my spring break from work. We live by so many parks and outside spaces to walk, and this was at the top of the hill at one of our favorite parks. She loves the swings and climbing places at that park, and I love that there’s an uphill trail, a labyrinth, and a little man-made pond to walk by.
In this photo, my daughter is the star. The emotion in her face is undeniable and untouchable. In this moment, she is pure joy. She is childhood innocence and love. It reminds me to take pleasure in simple things. I don’t remember a whole lot about this day but I know we went outside and we had fun. A lot of days are just like this picture where it’s just me and her, having fun. Those are the best days.
